Digital Color: Cell Shading

Character Art & Digital Painting

My primary focus as an artist is in digital medium, creating character art. My recent studies have been in creating stunning colorations and comic pages. Below you can find all manner of work I've done. Though I prefer creating original characters, you'll also find a lot of fan work in my gallery.

Details and Final Render

To see a piece of artwork grow from the first stages into its final form is always an enjoyable experience for me. Here, you can see part of my process through my piece "Ahoy There!".

Below, I will explain what each step is, briefly.

Rough Sketch: Often messy or incomplete lines that get down the basic shapes of my concept; Intention of piece should be clear, but the lines are very sketchy

Clean Sketch: A cleaned up sketch where there is little left to the imagination as far as where the outlines go

Line Art: Clean, often single width, solid black lines; Like most coloring books before you color them

Ink: Line art with added line weight or areas of intense black fill, hatching, or other clean shading techniques; Think black and white western comic book illustrations

Flat Color: Single colors placed per area; No shadows or lighting, just the hue; Think simple graphics or many cartoons

Digital Color: Digital Painting
